Rocky Mountain Roller Girls

As the sun set on the Wild West and the gold rush of Colorado's past ran dry, Denver's most fearless and brutal females kissed lawlessness goodbye and looked for a new outlet for stirring up trouble.

In 2004 just the thing formed in the Mile High City to keep those vicious vixens occupied‹the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. Bringing the ferocity of a saloon fight and an excitement that beats the hell out of picking away in a mine, the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls brought roller derby debauchery to Denver and to the rest of the state, breakin' faces and breakin' hearts along the way.

Calling Denver home to their brand of flat-track roller derby that has taken the nation by storm, the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls is made up of an all-female crew of skaters that completely own and operate their league.

Proud members of the WFTDA, RMRG is made up of two home teams - the Red Ridin' Hoods and the Sugar Kill Gang - and an all-star travel team - the 5280 Fight Club. The Hoods are a band of granny's little girls who are out for blood, while the Sugars dance and destroy to an old-school hip hop beat.

The best players of these two crews combine to form the Fight Club, girl boxers who are lookin' to take on teams from other cities in the ring or on the rink.

While RMRG is dedicated to the sport of roller derby and to becoming the best skaters they can be, the ladies are also committed to serving their community. When they aren't on the track you can find the girls either holding an event at a local hangout or dedicating their time to a number of charities.

FAQ's:

Is Roller Derby real?
Heck yes! We are not a staged, circus-style act. Flat track roller derby requires skill, strategy and a fearless defiance of good sense. Staged antics have been replaced with bone-crunching takeouts. Our elbow and hip-dodging Jammers are too determined to score points to slow down, but do we forget to put on a show? Never!

Are the scores and winners decided before the game?
No way! We may seem like friends off the track, but each team hits the ground knowing that they could win or they could lose.

Do y'all get hurt at bouts?
Sometimes. Roller Derby is a full contact sport. We wear safety gear -- helmets, mouthguards, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards -- and we have insurance to help us out when accidents happen. Accidents do happen—we do our best to be as safe as possible.

Who are the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls?
The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls are sexy, athletic, tough-minded, big-hearted women who have been taking Denver by storm since August 2004. The league is the first, the original, flat-track all-female in Denver.

In addition to regular season bouts, Rocky Mountain Rollergirls’ 2007 season features participation in inter-league bouts: We’ll travel around the country and host other states’ teams here, at home.

We're competitors on the rink but off the track, we embrace a few common values:

* Supporting female empowerment
* Supporting diversity
* Being an active part of the national coalition of all-female, flat-track leagues and contributing to the long-term health of the world’s greatest sport
* Putting on the best bouts we can for our fans
* Ensuring the success of the league by putting in as much time off the track as we do on the rink
* Ensuring skater safety at all times, which means being serious about practice and skating hard and often
* Supporting the local community and local businesses
* Contributing to local charities with time and money
* Doing it all DIY style and maintaining the heart of our grassroots foundation

What's the attraction?
For Women: The liberating experience of watching women excel in a kick-ass sport.
For Men: Catfights

Roller derby bouts are a great way to spend a night out on the town, and our party bus picks up fans at the 3 Kings Tavern downtown, takes them to the bout and back for the afterparty, and supplies free beer on the bus!

How do I become a Rocky Mountain Rollergirl?
We're recruiting girls 21 and over who are ready to take the plunge and get down and derby mile-high style. E-mail TriXie TriXter at info@rockymountainrollergirls.com for a new recruit packet!
